Bryum donianum  Grev
Main synonym = Bryum insulare    De Not.
Taxonomical Classification:  Plantae (Mosses) / Bryophyta / Bryopsida / Bryales / Bryaceae
Don's Thread-moss     Maltese name not known
Further Information:
The gametophyte (shoots) of this moss rarely grow more than 12-14 mm long and forms 2-3mm long leaves. The upper leaves form a compact tuft, and shrink and curl when dry, but do not become spirally twisted as in the closely related Bryum capillare. The leaves are often widest above the middle with a characteristic thickened and yellowish border. The mid-nerve is also well-developed, and shortly excurrent. B. donianum is not frequent in Malta and this population was found at Xewkija, Gozo in a shaded area amongst leaf litter. The sporophyte is sub-cylindrical and quite large, always hanging down as in most Bryum spp.
